Thx all!

PSA for Sony Connect Users
Converting ATRAC3 to MP3
If you’re a Sony Connect user (Sony’s “answer” to iTunes), you know how frustrating it is that the purchased files only come in ATRAC3 format and cannot be played on or transferred to non-Sony devices (e.g., an iPod), or converted to mp3s without first burning to a CD and then ripping it back to your computer. This is a big pain in the butt. However, I recently discovered an easy way to avoid wasting CD-Rs and create mp3s without downloading random specialized file converting programs.
Here’s how to do it in seven easy steps!
0. You already have: Sony’s SonicStage software installed (I’m using version 4.2) and a CD burner.
You still need: one blank CD-R and ~700MB hard drive space. Put the CD-R into the burner.
In SonicStage, go to the "Transfer" tab, "Create an Audio CD," and add as many songs as will fit to the blank CD listing.
Under "Tools," select Options->Creating a CD->Location for temporary files. Choose a directory that you can easily find/access and has sufficient HD space. Have an Explorer window open in this directory.
Under "Controls," select "Create CD," but in the dialogue box that opens, select "Test only" from the drop-down options. Start the test.
In the Explorer window of the directory you specified, you should start to see .wav or .tmp files being created (like ~ssc00000001.wav, ~ssc00000002.tmp), corresponding to the order of the CD listing. These are the temporary files that SonicStage will use to burn onto the CD, and they disappear after the CD burning process is complete. However, they are also fully playable wav files (just change the extension on .tmp files to .wav)! So, wait until the file stops growing/SonicStage starts to makes the next wav file/SonicStage enters the "burning" process, and then . . .
Copy the completed wav file(s) to another directory. Now you have a perfectly good copy of your file(s) in wav format! Change the file names (if you like) so that you can tell which file is which, and once you’ve copied all the files, you can stop SonicStage’s test burning.
Convert the wav file to mp3 using, for example, iTunes (add the file to your library, right click, and then select “Convert to mp3”). Erase the wav, and you’re done!
Finally, why would any iPod user (like myself) ever bother with Sony Connect when iTunes is available? Free download credits, of course! I’ve downloaded over four and a half hours of great music for free! Happy listening!
